Water & Leisure Committee >
The role of the committee is to be the natural body in Scotland which organisations involved in water & leisure safety will participate in order to have a strong voice across Governments and other accident prevention practitioners on water & leisure safety issues. The Committee is primarily concerned with preventative action and water & leisure safety education as well as supporting our search and rescue services. We advises and comments on legislation but are not directly involved in regulatory or enforcement activity.
Many water & leisure safety issues relate to U.K. legislation and we work closely with other U.K. bodies to make sure Scotland's voice is heard given the large areas of Scotland covered by lochs, canals and the many rivers small and large which cross the country
Consultation Response: Maritime & Coastguard Agency Review
Statement: "The Council is gravely concerned at the direction of the review in to the Maritime and Coastguard agency and calls on the U.K. Government to consider the implications of their proposals on the communities of Scotland and to engage in a more proactive fashion with our communities to better reflect their needs. The Council also welcomes the report by the U.K. Parliament Transport committee which calls for 24 hour operational centers"
