"In 2008, 270 people were killed on Scotland's roads, 2,568 were recorded as seriously injured and 12,738 suffered "slight" injury. Most of the casualties were traveling in cars (9,666, 153 of whom died), 2,589 were pedestrians (60 were killed), 1,041 were motorcyclists (34 died) and 725 were pedal cyclists (9 died). There were 1,689 child casualties, of whom 20 died" (Scottish Government Statistics)

SAPC Road Safety Committee role in helping you to reduce duplication in lobbying and representation in road safety and accident prevention
Role of committee to identifying research funding for pan-Scotland road safety work
Role of the Council in acting as a national access point for your local public awareness campaigns
Identifying new partners in road safety in terms of increasing expertise and reducing accident prevention costs
Educational opportunities – acting as a national access point for local road safety partnerships across Scotland e.g. West of Scotland Road Safety, Community Safety Partnerships, and Community Planning Partnerships
Areas of good practice – identifying areas through our emerging Community of Practice that meets the needs of your officers and elected members and assist in their decision making process in relation to accident prevention planning and budgeting as well as enhancing skills
Enhancing relations with insurance industry and Health and Safety organisations to promote personal responsibility and a promoting a understanding of the public sectors needs in relation to accident prevention
